                                     Press Release               June 7, 2010

The Highland Police Department will once again be stepping up summer patrols by implementing two initiatives designed at providing a greater police presence in neighborhoods, parks and along the bike trails.

Assigned Officers will spend their entire shift conducting neighborhood patrols and spending time speaking with residents regarding Quality of Life issues such as: 1) vehicles committing traffic infractions; 2) loud stereos, etc.; 3) junk vehicles; 4) reciprocity violations, etc. Officers will try to solve the problem at this time and/or forward information to the appropriate division for follow-up. Data will be collected regarding specific traffic concerns and follow-up will be conducted to correct poor driving habits at these locations. Officers are encouraged to get out and “shoot some hoops” with kids at the park and even stop by and enjoy a lemonade at a neighborhood lemonade stand.

Assigned Officers will also be regularly visiting town parks and the bike trail as they patrol by both bicycle and motorcycle. Stopping by a ball game is encouraged in an effort to introduce themselves to our residents.

These two programs will begin June 1st and continue throughout the summer.
