Shop With a Cop Program

For several years, the Donald R. Sheppard Lodge has been able to participate in the shop with a cop program due to generous donations made by citizens, businesses, and the lodge’s associate members.  This past year, the lodge was able to sponsor several families.  The Donald R. Sheppard Lodge accepts donations throughout the year and would appreciate any donations you would be willing to make.  The money received will go solely toward the annual program held the second weekend in December.

Dozens of police officers from several cities swarmed the Wal-Mart store on U.S. 41 Saturday -- and most of them went right for the toy department. More than 100 children took part in the Shop With A Cop program Saturday morning at the Schererville department store, walking with police officers and their families to get some early Christmas gifts with money raised by local police unions.
It was the 16th year the store has worked with local police unions for the program, which fosters positive interaction between local youths and police officers and can help counter negative perceptions of law enforcement officials, organizers say.
In all, more than 200 children will take part in the program at the Schererville store this season, using financial contributions and donated time from police departments in Crown Point, Dyer, Highland, Munster, Schererville, and St. John, as well as the Munster High School football team, said Wal-Mart community events director Debbie
